We flew about 1000 miles from Albuquerque in 31 hours, passing directly over Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. Our landing was near Lafayette, Louisiana in the wee hours of the morning after an exciting landing approach in the dark, with 20mph winds at 300' above ground. We were confronted with the decision of whether or not to continue flying out over the Gulf of Mexico, which was my preference, with a possible landing in Florida or some point in or around the Cairbbean, or to land in the dark before running out of land. Janet was adamant about not flying over water, so down we came. Luckily there were no powerlines nearby and we happened to pick a dry field, surrounded on three sides by flooded fields and heavy brush on the fourth side. Met some very friendly locals who helped us pack and invited us to join them later for a dinner of crawfish etouffe, an invitation we happily accepted! All's well that ends well.
