We went for a hike on Gary's 64th birthday, starting from Santiam Pass. Although the forecast was iffy, the weather co-operated perfectly, blessing us with beautiful clouds and plenty of sun, until near the end. As we neared the car, rain and snow began to fall. Gary and Boomer, Phil and Tucker and I hiked south from the Santiam Pass, through the standing dead trees left by a forest fire. The beargrass was all droopy! Prolongued freezing temperaturese killed the blossoms.
